Greetings everyone!!
I am thrilled to announce the successful completion of six Technology Conference, focusing
on the Growth of Plastic Industry, Import Substitution of Plastic Goods expertly organized by
AIPMA and AMTEC. The conference provided a platform to gain comprehensive insights into
import substitution strategies and their significance in the plastic industry. Through in-depth
presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, attendees were able to understand
the challenges posed by imports and the immense potential for domestic production. This
knowledge has empowered them to explore avenues for import substitution, leading to reduced
dependence on foreign sources and increased self-reliance.
AIPMA’s aim was to create awareness among the industry people by conducting conferences in
six cities of India with its extensive research on the import of plastic products into the nation. We
encourage import substitution because it benefits from reducing reliance on foreign sources and
increasing self-reliance, aids in the growth and development of different industries in India and
develops indigenous technologies, betters production techniques, and produces new products.
It will also address to the employments issues. These advancements will not only help in import
substitution of plastic products but also will make Indian industry globally competitive.
This initiative is directly connected towards the growth of Indian Plastic Industry as there
are many products which are being imported and can be manufactured in India. The current
scenario shows that if the industry people start exploring on the identified products and start
manufacturing the same then in no time the chain of demand and supply will be at par and it will
give adverse effect to the import of these products which definitely will have positive impact on
the Indian Industry.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a concept and approach that aims to shift the
responsibility and costs for managing a product's lifecycle from the consumer to the producer.
India has made significant progress in implementing EPR for electronic waste (e-waste) through
the E-Waste Management Rules, 2016. Around 126,000 metric tons of e-waste were collected
and recycled in 2019-2020, indicating a growing adoption of EPR practices in the country.
Statistics play a significant role in the implementation and evaluation of EPR programs. By
tracking and analyzing data on waste generation, recycling rates, and the environmental impact
of products, policymakers and stakeholders can assess the effectiveness of EPR measures and
make informed decisions for future improvements.
AIPMA has attended a discussion with Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change
(MoEFCC) on the Simplification of EPR. As communicated, the portal is being modified to
accommodate various simplifications which have been notified and can be downloaded from
CPCB site. Any further notification will be informed. The EPR registration is perpetual, any
change in data has to be informed to the Govt. The annual service is expected to have no fee
and the structure is yet to be announced. All other local approvals have to be complied as per
state laws. The ministry has assured us the EPR registration will remain valid subject to annual
fee payment. The ongoing simplification process is subsequent to notification.
The registration validity has been assured by officials, till then we will have to wait for guidelines/
notification. If your certificate is due for renewal, we suggest that you write to the officials so
as to avoid any punitive action.
Thanking you,
