It gives me immense pleasure to address you all today & give you a glimpse of our activities
throughout the month of December. After almost a decade of continual growth, the eco system
for the plastic processing sector has rapidly changed.
The world is experiencing multiple transitions. Amongst tumultuous events like Covid19,
lockdown, raw material prices at an all time high, overall uncertainty of how the future will
look like in terms of demand, operations, supply chain, etc… there has also been a high
sensitivity & awareness of the role of plastics in our society.
Our association took the opportunity to interact with the government ministers and officials to
make them aware of the various challenges the industry is facing.
With reference to the recently released amendment by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board in
consent to Operate of Leading Brand Owners and Plastic Producers for Use of Recycled Plastics
in Plastic Packaging and Plastic items, AIPMA welcomed the decision made with objective of
post consumer plastic waste management which will bring us closer to sustainable
consumption. However, on the basis of the inputs received from the industry stakeholders &
experts, it was found that the amendments lacked operational clarity. Therefore, AIPMA sent a
representation to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board highlighting the amendments that
needed clarity requesting them to rethink and also requesting MPCB to provide enough time to Chandrakant Turakhia
          industry to organize the supply.
The Government has successfully introduced the e-invoicing system for Companies with
turnover of more than INR 500 crores from 1 October 2020. Furthermore, the Government has
recently notified the applicability for businesses with turnover more than INR 100 crores with
effect from 1 January 2021, which will eventually get introduced for all businesses in due
course of time. The introduction of e-invoicing system in India has fundamentally changed the
way businesses operate, offering an opportunity to move from archaic invoicing practices to all
new electronic real time exchange of invoicing data. As this is a major business change, AIPMA
believes that an assessment of system readiness and implementation of required changes
would be crucial for businesses & hence require clarity. AIPMA organized a webinar on “E-
invoicing System” to help the industry to get insights about this newly introduced system.
Plastic injection molding technique is something we all have used or are related to in some way
or the other. These techniques help in manufacturing of complex and detailed designs, provide
high efficiency, enhanced product strength, ability to use multiple plastic types
simultaneously, automation to save manufacturing cost and the list goes endless. AIPMA
organised a webinar on the concept of “Real Art of Molding” (RAM), the implementation of
which would give you repeatability in injection molding.
This workshop instead of Provided with insights on Why Real Art of Molding (RAM) is important?
What is Real Art of Molding (RAM)? What does it entail? Importance of RAM approach to molding
especially during Covid-19 times when labour is scarce and increased production per hour is of
utmost importance & advantages of implementation of RAM. It proved very beneficial for the
brand owners, production managers, product engineers etc.
Around the discussion of globalization and increasing production, it is evident that we need to
radically rethink our relationship with the natural and manmade system. This is one of the
obvious observations, when thinking about a sustainability transition, but also when thinking
about new business opportunities to last. We must move away from our current 'take-make-
waste' linear economy to a circular economy. It is estimated to that the Circular Economy
represents a USD4.5 trillion growth opportunity globally by 2030. Acknowledging the
importance of Circular Economy in today's system, AIPMA organised an “Introductory Course
on Circular Economy” to help the industry develop an understanding of its basic principles,
starting from its relation to earth system, its social dimension, new economic opportunities &
it also helped illustrate how business models can be made viable and yet social and
         environmentally beneficial.
                                                                        Chandrakant Turakhia
                                                                                    President
                                                                         president@aipma.net
