THE PRESIDENT SAYS
Happy Days are ahead for the Plastic Industry.
I take this opportunity of communicate to you to bring to your attention the emerging opportunities,
the views of Hon’ble Shri Piyush Goyal, Commerce Minister of the Indian Plastic Industry at the
global stage and our our event on new Innovations in Plastic Industry conference on 21st January, 2022.
To begin with we had a conference in Bangalore on 1st December 2021 on Plastic Recycling &
Waste Management Technology and it emerged as in lieu of the new vehicle status policy of the
Government there will be more than 25 Lakhs vehicles will be scrapped in next two years and that
will give boost to the scrap recycling Industry. There will be around 150-200 kg of plastics in one
car which will be coming to the industry for recycling. As an Industry we need to keep them aware
of this opportunity and prepare ourselves with infrastructure and the capacity to process it.
It was also identified that there are some new technologies which are available and as a technology,
everybody in need of ideal manufacturers converting medical waste directly into the profile being
an ideal example from waste to wealth
To begin with I wish to highlight that Niti Ayog has identified bio-polymers and compostable plastics
as a sunrise industry which is the ray of hope for the Plastics Industry and Niti Aayog is a direction
for the plastic industry to adopt their technology and move in this direction. As a President AIPMA,
when I am travelling and meeting several Industry leaders and interact with them I realize that India
is the hub of solar energy and to create this solar energy they also give big opportunities to our plastic
industry to manufacture junction boxes, panels, major items from Plastics which is required solar to
create this solar infrastructure at the national level.
Looking at the growth potential of the Plastic Industry, Minister of Industry and State Enterprises,
Government of Rajasthan Smt. Shakuntla Rawat had invited AIPMA to invest in Plastic Manufacturing
Units and look upon AIPMA to promote the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment
Region (PCPIR) Plastic Park in Barmer. I learned that Rajasthan in view of the Mumbai Delhi
expressway that has been created, will be going to be a very big industrial hub. Two years ago they
were selling 250 industrial plots and last year they sold 5000+ plots annually and growing interest of
the MSME units to shift there in view of the new promotion policy for first 3 years, they support the
MSME industry. Some special packages are worked out for AIPMA members for this plastic park to
set up the MSME industry park and special package of rates and incentives is been worked out for
AIPMA members for setting up plastic units, details of which will be forwarded.
I wish to highlight that AIPMA President was invited by Hon’ble Minister Shri Piyush Goyal in
an interactive meeting with Industry leaders of the plastic industry very regularly and especially to
understand the potential and the issues faced by the Plastic industry. The key points of which he
highlighted was that today industry is contributing 3.5 lakh crores to the GDP and in the next 5
years he saw the potential and Indian Plastic Industry to target to reach 10 Lakh Crores, 5 Lakh crore
for the domestic market and 5 Lakh crores for the export market. To reach this score, whatever the
infrastructure was needed for the testing laboratories, policy etc. The ministry promises to provide
the same to the plastic industry. His personal interest and enthusiasm to support the plastic industry
are very much appreciated and welcomed. With this positive note, I wish to end this message with
happy days are ahead for the Plastic Industry.
Wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year..
