Speech of Shri Arvind Mehta – Chairman Governing Council AIPMA at GAIL
Customer Meet 2026 on Friday, 13th February 2026 at La Grand Maison,
          Hotel Sofitel, Mumbai.
I would like to share my views about growth of Plastic Industry of India by 2030..

Indian Plastics Processing Industry: Vision 2030

The Indian plastics processing industry, one of the key pillars of the country’s
manufacturing landscape, is poised for a transformative journey toward 2030.
With a strong foundation of over 50,000 processing units and employing more Arvind M. Mehta
than 5 million people, the sector is now aligning its vision with the imperatives of Chairman -
sustainability, innovation, and global leadership. Governing Councinl AIPMA
Past President – & Plastindia Foundation
          1. Towards a Sustainable and Circular Economy

By 2030, the Indian plastics industry aims to be a frontrunner in circular econo-
          my practices. This includes:
♦ Increasing the share of recycled plastics in production,

♦ Encouraging eco-design and reusable products,
♦ Promoting biodegradable and compostable alternatives where appropriate,
♦ Expanding nationwide plastic waste management and recycling infrastruc-
             ture.
The industry is committed to reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining
          material efficiency and product performance.
          2. Technological Modernization and Industry 4.0

The future of plastics processing lies in smart manufacturing. Vision 2030 in-
          cludes:

♦ Adoption of automation, robotics, and AI for quality control and operational
             efficiency,
♦ Integration of IoT-based solutions for predictive maintenance and energy
             optimization,
♦ Scaling up of advanced processing technologies such as injection blow
moulding, multilayer film extrusion, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).
This shift will enhance competitiveness and make India a global supplier of preci-
sion plastic components across automotive, healthcare, electronics, and pack-
          aging sectors.
          3. Skilling and Workforce Readiness
To support the evolving technological landscape, a highly skilled workforce is
          crucial. Vision 2030 envisages:
♦ Setting up skill development centers and vocational courses tailored for
             plastics processing,
♦ Strong collaboration between industry and academia,
