         AIPMA Pursues Its Concern Over Skyrocketing Prices




           t’s been a very eventful and productive month for AIPMA. AIPMA has been sincerely working
          Itowards its goal in safeguarding the plastic processing industry and taking all necessary
          measures to promote its growth to the maximum.

          The plastics industry in India constitutes of 50,000+ plastics processing units of which 90%
          are MSME’s. The sector directly employs more than 50 Lakhs people and contributes more
          than Rs. 3 Lakhs crores to the country’s GDP.

          A meeting of 10 Plastic Industry associations led & organized by AIPMA with the Hon’ble
          Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal to make him familiar with the on ground
          reality of the plastic processing sector & its market.

          Various issues faced by the industry were put forward. Exponential increase of raw material
          prices, Import duty on plastics finished goods, Inverted duty, FTA (Atmanirbhar), Policy support   Chandrakant Turakhia
          for increasing exports from India, Production Linked Incentives (PLI) & various other issues
          were some of the many issues which were highlighted and raised in front of the minister.
          Shri Piyush Goyal had also asked for detailed submissions about the increased raw material
          prices and potential ban on Single Use Plastics, which was immediately submitted by AIPMA
          for further action. AIPMA additionally also presented suggestions and Recommendations for
          further benefit of the industry. The Hon’ble minister has assured timely action and careful
          consideration of the above mentioned issues in order to safeguard the plastic processing
          industry.
          AIPMA also got an opportunity to personally meet and put forward the industry’s concern
          in front of Shri B.B Swain, Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises &
          Shri Yogendra Tripathi, Secretary, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. AIPMA raised and
          highlighted several issues faced by the plastic industry regarding the union budget 2021,
          alongside presenting a set of suggestions for their careful consideration.

          Looking at the increasing concerns around plastic waste management and recognizing our
          responsibility towards the environment, AIPMA scheduled a meeting with Shri Naresh Pal
          Gangwar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to discuss
          the ongoing waste management issues and providing additional measures to overcome
          this. After careful internal deliberation & discussions, AIPMA has also presented a set of
          recommendations on The Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 to be taken into consideration
          before the new amendment.
