          CMA awarded for its efforts on single use plastic waste management

          Cement Manufacturers Association awarded by the Government of India for its country wide efforts on single
          use plastic waste management under Swachhata Hi Seva 2019 campaign



             he Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA) was      well attended by renowned experts, Industry leadership,
          Tfelicitated at an event organised by the Department   and policymakers.During the second phase of the SHS
          of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India,   campaign, CMA effectively facilitated disposal of 7,835
          on November 19, 2019 at New Delhi. The award was      tonnes of plastic waste through its Member Companies
          presented to Mahendra Singhi, President, CMA and Aparna   in a short duration between October 1 to 25, 2019,
          Dutt Sharma, Secretary General, CMA, by the Ministry   which translates to approximately 313 tonnes of plastic
          of  Jal  Shakti.  Shri  Sadananda  Gowda,  Union  Minister,   disposed of every day across 15 states.

          The campaign involved collaboration in two phases,
          viz,  awareness  creation  in  Phase  I,  and  plastic  waste
          disposal in Phase II. During the first phase of awareness
          creation, from September 11 till October 1, 2019, over
          3.25 lakh people were directly sensitised about the ill
          effects of single use plastic, which encompassed 545
          activities conducted across 377 villages in 17 states by the   municipal corporation. "Around 50 MT of dry waste
