Greetings!!!
The 1st Technology Conference for Growth of Plastic Industry, Import Substitution of Plastic
Goods organized by AIPMA at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi was a great success. The
conferenc atten mo than 400 indu including senio governmen officials,
visionaries of the industry, researchers and entrepreneurs.
The major topics that were discussed at the conference were Innovations in Raw material &
Supply Chain requirement for Import Substitution, Requirement of Innovative Plastic processing
Technologies for Import Substitution, Requirement of Tooling, and Dies & Jigs Fixtures for Import
Substitution, Roadmap to become Atmanirbhar in Plastic Goods (Quality, Cost, Delivery, and
Innovation) Initiative taken by AIPMA was highly applauded by the Government as well as the
industry.
Upcoming conference is in Mumbai on 7th July and similar conferences would be held in Kolkata,
Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore in upcoming months.
Recently on World Environment Day 5th June 2023 the UNEP spoke about “Uniting to end
Plastic Pollution”, we are facing the triple planetary crisis: The crisis of climate change; the crisis
of nature and biodiversity loss; and the crisis of pollution and waste stated that plastic pollution
is a deeply concerning strand of the triple planetary crisis. It was also brought to light that over
400 million metric tons of plastic garbage are generated globally each year and only 10% of all
plastic garbage produced has ever been recycled.
On this matter, as one of the largest populated country India’s average plastic per capita
consumption is 13-14kg forecasting growth of the plastic industry thriving to achieve the world
per capita consumption of plastic which is 35kg so eliminating plastic use is not necessary as
we can make use of the plastic waste. As the statistics says, India stands at 60% on recycling so
recycling and disposing plastic waste responsibly by implementing effective recycling programs
and spread awareness about proper recycling benefits will help at the larger scale, also
Implementing waste segregation system to separate recyclable materials from non-recyclable
waste, enabling effective recycling and reducing landfill burden.
As a responsible citizen the ways to manage the plastic waste pollution is by controlling as
well as improvising our LITTERING HABITS, which will result into a clean and healthy
environment for everyone and reducing the need to ban plastic. Initial step that we can take, is to
organize regular clean-up initiatives in local communities, beaches, parks, and other areas prone
to littering. We can place labeled and color-coded dustbins for waste segregation at regular
intervals at the beaches, railway stations, parks and other public places. We can also recruit
and train dedicated marshals responsible for monitoring and enforcing proper waste disposal
practices which will also help in addressing employment issues. We should keep in mind that the
origin of this initiative starts at our home and we should focus on our LITTERING HABITS.
Recycling plastics helps in various forms as it is used in constructions, plastic parks, benches,
pavers etc. India is already working on the initiative “SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN”.
Through this mission, the government aims to achieve a clean and sanitized India by focusing on
eliminating open defecation and solid waste management. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is seen as a
national movement to ensure cleanliness of surroundings, primarily focusing on rural areas and
urban slums. It emphasizes on the need for all citizens to be involved in the cleanliness drive and
create an atmosphere of participation to fulfill the mission of the nation.
Thanking you,
