AIPMA INITIATIVE –
TO BRING EASE TO LIVES OF RAGPICKERS
AFFECTED BY COVID 19 PANDEMIC
OVID-19 Pandemic has affected large number of
Ccountries in the world and has forced bulk of the
population of earth in Lock downs. Challenged by
collapse of economic activity not to mention concern for
wellness, large number of informal workers are fighting
for their very existence. One such community is
Ragpickers, a key contributor to India's waste
management. The All India Plastics Manufacturers'
Association (AIPMA) has taken an initiative to help
Dharavi cluster of Ragpickers who have been rendered
workless and without money. AIPMA a 75 year old trade
Association, representing Plastic Industry of India has
extended a helping hand to important stake holders in
the plastic value chain.
AIPMA has contributed to various relief measures to help
alleviate misery of distressed groups. One of the many
initiatives taken was to support the rag pickers by
directly providing them cash assistance through their
bank accounts to tie over their difficulties.
Appreciating significant role played by rag pickers, as a
stake holder of plastic value chain, towards the
community and the challenges to their livelihood due to
COVID-19 crisis, the management of The All India
Plastics Manufacturers' Association decided to stand by
them with monetary help. We trust the gesture came
handy to over 100 families who had lost livelihood due to
Lock down.
