Innovations at large
Ideally in this issue I would like to talk about new things and innovations that perhaps many of you would
have observed at the recently concluded China Plas, but then again it is the space constraint that I have
to adhere to as well. Just to tell you, AIPMA had a huge Indian delegation over 250 professionals from the
Industry and it was very good learning experience for all of us.
One of the most sought innovation at Chinaplas was the unmanned robot injection moulding developed by
Staubli with a fully integrated industry 4.0 cell for a quick mold change. Reducing the time taken to change
a die is fundamental to the SMED process — Single-Minute Exchange of Dies. Process automation,
performance, reliability and innovation are the main criteria detailed in the QMC (Quick Mold
Change) solutions from Stäubli. These considerably reduce downtime and offer a much needed
and flexible approach to frequent die changes, cost reduction, time wasted and stock reduction.
With a range of automation design, the SMED technology reduces the change time for molding
by more than 95% also avoiding the human errors.
Apart from this we had China's largest robot maker, Siasun Co. Ltd., turning to plastics to make a
lighter and more versatile version of a collaborative robot, known as Cobot. The Shenzhen-based
company worked with BASF SE to replace the skin of a cobot with plastic thereby reducing the
weight of the (robot) now called Cobot to only 20 kilograms. However the Cobot prototype at AJAY DESAI
Chinaplas is not on the market yet.
Back home, Chennai man has developed an incinerator to burn plastic. S.D. Joseph, a resident of Kottivakkam
has developed a closed incinerator at home by using a metallic cylinder with air tight doors and he claims
that it can burn any non-biodegradable waste without letting out the gas into the environment. When asked
how the idea can be implemented for burning waste on a large scale, he replied, “A square chamber of
about five feet can be built with refractory bricks and fire clay. Two heat resistant leak proof doors must be
provided, one at the side and other at the top. Lastly, a half-inch pipe for oxygen inlet at the bottom must
be fitted. Initial ignition can be provided with coconut shells or electric heater. Then the non-biodegradable
waste is put in and oxygen is allowed inside the room.” He said the plastic will reduce to ashes within
minutes and in turn the ash can be used for making hollow blocks. Joseph also claims that anybody can
handle the machine with a few hours of training and practice.
GST on its way - Some highlights
The official launch of the GST will take place on the midnight of 30th June.Traders to get relaxation on
filing of returns . Relaxation in Return filing time-line for first 2 months: A summary return form in GSTR-
3B will required to be filed on self-declaration basis for first 2 month i.e. July and August by 20th day of
next month. I.e. for the month of July, a summary return needs to be filed by 20th august after paying
appropriate taxes, and for the month of August, the same needs to filed by 20th September. GSTR-1 with
invoice level details needs to be filed for the month of July by 5th September, and for the month of August
by 20th September. GSTR-2 and GSTR-3 for these 2 months will be filed thereafter.
