skill development, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities among youth.
By partnering with All India Plastic Manufacturers Association (AIPMA), Covestro
(India) endeavours to create awareness about the plastic industry's potential and
provide a platform for aspiring individuals to build rewarding careers.
AIPMA is a 79-year-old association with nearly 22,000 members nationwide, rec-
ognised by the Chemical and Fertilisers Ministry & Department of Petrochemicals,
Government of India. It joined forces with Covestro (India) to equip youth with
necessary skills to excel in the plastic industry. AIPMA’s Arvind Mehta Technology
& Entrepreneurship Center (AMTEC) serves as a hub for training and certification,
endorsed by Government Initiatives such as Skill India – by National Skill Develop-
ment Corporation (NSDC).
It is recognised that there is a growing demand for skilled professionals in the
plastic industry and Covestro (India) aims to address the same alongside empow-
ering youth from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The project
named as “Upskilling Youth in Plastic Industry,” focussed on courses - 3D print-
ing, Mould Product Design, and Tool which are certified by renowned institutions
and knowledge partners like Siemens, Auto Desk and 3D Systems.
The program, conducted between November 2023 and May 2024, trained 100 stu-
dents for the plastic industry. Out of these, 22 students are pursuing higher educa-
tion, 70 have secured placements in esteemed companies such as Jay Precision,
SVP Packing India Pvt Ltd, ARMS For Bajaj Auto, Varroc Polymers, and Machine,
among others, while 8 students are in the process of securing jobs showcasing
the ongoing positive outcome of the project.
"The plastic industry needs skilled professionals with designing expertise, and this
project has provided critical training and certification. Covestro (India) is com-
mitted to preparing the next generation of design engineers with the skills and
knowledge to excel," said Sanjay David - Lead Market Development, Engineering
