India As A Global Sourcing Hub For Plastics & Packaging Industry

The All-India Plastics Manufacturers' Association (AIPMA) organised a one-day conference on “India
as a Global Sourcing Hub for Plastics & Packaging Industry” at Hotel Taj Mahal in Lucknow on 13 August
2026. The conference brought together government representatives, industry leaders, exporters,
technology experts, international market representatives and MSMEs to examine how India—particularly
Uttar Pradesh—can significantly expand its exports of plastics and packaging products.
The event had Hon’ble Dy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Brijesh Pathak as the Chief Guest
and Ms Mercy Epao, Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME as Guest of Honor.

The conference focused on converting India's manufacturing capability into global competitiveness,
with discussions covering export opportunities, Free Trade Agreements, global buyer expectations,
technology and automation, AI, bioplastics, digital transformation, international markets, government
policies and investment opportunities.
Address by the Chief Guest – Hon'ble Shri Brajesh Pathak, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh
Hon'ble Shri Brajesh Pathak thanked AIPMA for choosing Lucknow for the conference and welcomed
the plastics industry to Uttar Pradesh. He emphasised that plastics have become an essential part of
modern life, extending far beyond conventional applications such as films and bags to products ranging
from furniture and cables to mobile phones and adhesive tapes. At the same time, he acknowledged
sustainability and recycling as major challenges facing the industry and underlined the need to address
these issues responsibly.
