AIPMA AT WORK

buyers, and AIPMA's ambitious vision of taking Indian plastics end-product exports towards US$50
billion. He called upon the industry to use the conference not merely as a seminar but as a platform for
interaction with government, exporters and international buyers and concluded with the call: “Make in
India – Make for the World.”

Industry Vision Address – Mr. Arvind Mehta
Mr. Arvind Mehta, Chairman, Governing Council, AIPMA, took the
discussion from opportunity to vision and action. He stated that India's
ambition should not merely be to increase plastics exports but to
establish India as a preferred global sourcing destination for plastics and
packaging products. A true global sourcing hub requires quality, reliability,
innovation, competitive pricing, scale and responsible manufacturing. He
identified four important gaps that need to be addressed: global market
intelligence, international quality and certification, technology and
productivity, and global marketing and buyer connectivity. He stressed Shri Arvind Mehta’s Address
the need to change from “manufacture first and look for a market later”
to “identify the market first and manufacture for that market.”

Mr. Mehta further highlighted the role of AIPMA initiatives such as Plastiworld in creating direct links
between Indian manufacturers and international buyers. He outlined the need for a complete export
ecosystem covering market identification, buyer discovery, product development, certification,
financing, technology, logistics and repeat business. He identified Uttar Pradesh as a potential major
plastics and packaging export centre and emphasised that the real transformation would occur when
thousands of Indian MSMEs become not merely exporters but repeat global suppliers.
